Ask the Author: R.O. Lora
What would you like readers to know about you?
I am a young adult, Hispanic male, who loves to write Fiction, Poetry, and short pieces.
What is Wanders of the Mind about for those who haven’t read it?
My latest work, Wanders of the Mind, is a collection of poetry pieces and thoughts that I have experienced throughout my life. I am writing it all in a book in hopes that others can relate to some of the thoughts, emotions & experiences I have gone through, and can give them strength to make it through the dark times.
What has been your inspiration for writing Wanders of the Mind?
My inspiration for writing Wanders of the Mind has been my former self, as well as some close friends. I have grown so much through my experiences, however I wish I would have felt more understood while going through some of the things I went through. I was always the friend who guided others through their dark moments, and felt I could guide more.
What was your favorite scene or part of Wanders of the Mind to write?
My favorite part of Wanders of the Mind has to be a piece I call “My Boogieman”. Without getting too dark, this piece is written directly to someone who caused me traumatizing harm as a child. However, half of this piece is me letting go of the effects he had on me, as well as letting him go from the depths of my mind.
What books or authors inspired you to become a writer?
Thirteen Reasons Why was the most recent book that has aspired me to complete this writing piece. I would previously write for myself and friends, only wondering about making it a published work. However, seeing how many young adults around the world go through things I have gone through, and the life-threatening consequences of those experiences, made me want to make an impactful difference.
What advice would you give to aspiring authors who want to write a book?
My advice to aspiring writers would be to never stop writing and never let your self doubts stop you from writing. Everyone will doubt themselves when they are starting out, even when others around them continuously encourage them. Even I am guilty of this. However, day by day, I wrote little by little, and a year later, I am finally close to publishing my first piece. Anyone can be a writer, they just have to believe in themselves.
My upcoming book, Wanders of the Mind, will be published soon on Amazon KDP, and will be for sale sometime in April/May. For upcoming news, follow @wandersofthemindbook on Instagram, or @wanders_mind on twitter.
