What would you like readers to know about you?
I would like for readers to know how passionate I am about my writing… and well, life in general. I’m a Cancer, a dreamer, a lover of the simple things in life. I write strong, relatable characters that readers can empathize with, fall in love with and want to know more about.
What is Abundance about for those who haven’t read it?
Abundance is a raw, suspenseful, endearing romance novel that showcases strength and love in the face of dark tragedy. It’s a tale of moving forward, going home and grabbing life by the horns. It tells the story of single mother, Natalie Cameron, who is recently divorced and coming back home to Abundance, Texas when her car breaks down on the side of the road, leaving her and her young daughter, Dallas, stranded. Unknowingly, her parent’s ranch foreman, the kind and handsome cowboy, Jack Kinsen, comes to their rescue. Jack soon sees that Natalie may be in distress, but she’s not just any damsel. Natalie must face the small town gossip, her estranged brother, rebuild her life and fight her demons, all the while, a simmering desire for this sexy cowboy burns deep inside her. Just when it seems that the tables have finally turned for Natalie and her tragedy in Chicago, her past is about to make a shocking reappearance.
What has been your inspiration for writing Abundance?
Abundance was inspired by two movies, Hope Floats and The Horse Whisperer along with my some of my own trials and tribulations. Each of us has had something tragic befall us, and some of us have even faced true evil. I just decided to give it a face and a name. My father was a Texan and much of my childhood was spent traveling there. Growing up in Georgia, I fell in love with the difference in scenery and the cowboy lifestyle, so I wanted my story to be there and I wanted to embrace my southwestern roots as well 😉
What was your favorite scene or part of Abundance to write?
I guess one of my favorite scenes is in the beginning of the book, where Jack meets Natalie and Dallie. I loved showcasing the feisty momma bear side of Natalie, and Dallie’s awe of meeting a “real” cowboy. Often our first impressions of people are the ones that last, and I wanted to showcase how smitten the little four-year-old was by him. I also loved the bittersweet “reunion” scene between Nathan and Natalie.
What books or authors inspired you to become a writer?
I have been a dreamer all of my life with my head up in the clouds. People would think I was being stuck up or called me a space cadet, LOL, when all along I was just day-dreaming. As a young girl, I loved “pretending” and playing the role of other “characters”. My Barbie dolls had complex relationships and there was always some kind of drama, intrigue or action taking place when my sister, cousins and I would play. When I read my first “real” romance novel, Nobody’s Baby But Mine by Susan Elizabeth Phillips, at the age of thirteen, I fell in love with the dynamic characters. They were witty, sexy and funny and I knew I wanted to write realistic, lovable characters like that. I started eating up all kinds of books after that by romance authors Susan Elizabeth Phillips, Sandra Brown and Danielle Steele, and started writing at the age of fourteen- little plays about my life with some make believe thrown in. I started the groundwork for Abundance at the age of sixteen while in high school and the rest is history. Although I went through many “dry” spells, I haven’t stopped writing since. Abundance was published in September 2018.
What advice would you give to aspiring authors who want to write a book?
Do it! Do it for yourself. Even if you never have any intention of publishing, just write the book. Give your dreams an outlet. Let your inner voice be heard. Bring your characters to life!
