My name is Corey, I’m 47 years old. I’m married to a wonderful man and we live in Rome Italy. I’m a stay at home husband who likes to write stories and drink wine (not at the same time)
My book is titled ‘Uncle of the Groom: a different kind of love story. It’s a story about a man who loses his mother suddenly and must work through this loss with the brother who turned his back on him four years prior after he came out. It’s a story about love, forgiveness, tolerance and above all else, family. Whether it be the family we’re born into or the family we choose.
I began working on Uncle a few years after my mother passed away. She died suddenly, like the character of Bobbie in the story. There were so many things I never got to say. Writing this book, allowed me to say some of those things
There are many favorite scenes for me; Blake punching his brother, Jeremy. Blake being smitten by a really cute guy while on vacation at the beach. But writing Blake standing up to Stephen after Stephen outs Blake to Ethan, his five-year-old nephew was my all time favorite.
I love Gregory McGuire’s books. Wicked, son of a witch, etc. I was in love with the wizard of Oz as a kid. Reading his stories, with familiar characters, but different personalities and storylines were so great. It wasn’t long after starting a Lion Among Men that I started writing Uncle
The advice I would tell (and have told) to aspiring writers: Write! If you have a story inside you, write it down. If you don’t think it’ll be good, write it anyway. If you think no one will read it, write it anyway. Each of us has a story to tell. Something you think is meaningless can have a significant meaning to someone else. Your story may help someone else realize they are not alone in feeling a certain way.
Don’t keep your words to yourself (unless they’re in a diary, then it’s okay)
