Ask the Author: Joy Mosby
What would you like readers to know about you?
I guess I would like readers and aspiring authors to know that I was diagnosed with dyslexia in the second grade. It affected my reading and spelling. For a few years, my mom didn’t think I would make it through high school let alone college. I did both and now I have five published books. I truly believe that you can do anything you set your mind to if you surround yourself with people who believe in you and you believe in yourself.
What is your series: Daughter of Asteria about for those who haven’t read it?
Katie Hunter finds out that she is anything but ordinary while she is backing around Europe. Not only are vampires drawn to her but she can read their minds. As the series progresses she learns more about her origins and a destiny that could save the world from a war that would destroy Europe.
What has been your inspiration for writing your series Daughter of Asteria?
I’ve always loved the Hero’s Journey’s, (The Odyssey, Star Wars, Goonies, Harry Potter, Fever Series, Kill Bill). In book one of the series, Found By Vampires, Katie is just a typical twenty-something who can’t defend herself. By the last book, (releasing summer of 2019) Imprisoned by Vampires, she a badass who can take care of herself.
What was your favorite scene or part of Daughter of Asteria to write?
I don’t want to spoil it! Let me see if I can explain it without ruining it for your readers…The final fight scene in Imprisoned by Vampires has to be my favorite because everything comes full circle.
What books or authors inspired you to become a writer?
That is a very long list! Reading Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight saga made me believe I could write a book. Charlaine Harris’s Sookie Stackhouse Series made me believe that a book can be fun and entertaining without being too deep. I aspire to be able to tell stories as well as Stephen King and as funny as Christopher Moor. The list goes on and on but those are the big ones.
What advice would you give to aspiring authors who want to write a book?
Write, just sit down and write. Don’t over think it. It takes practice and hard work, but when you type ‘the end’ it’s the most amazing feeling in the world because you created something complete your own and no one can take it away from you. Even if you never show it to anyone you can say you did it.
