Ask the Author: Gill Anderson

What would you like readers to know about you?

I am from Scotland originally and very proud of my roots but have embraced Australian life with open arms. I love living in Adelaide and am married with two beautiful daughters. I’d like my readers to know that I feel very strongly about domestic violence and abuse of women

What is your book about for those who haven’t read it?

My book is a confronting tale of power and control and highlights the ongoing issue of domestic abuse towards women. There are a lot of sexually deviant characters in the story who are derived from my experiences as a social worker in child protection.

What has been your inspiration for writing your book?

I was inspired to write it because it highlights how deeply our choices can impact others. One simple poor decision can be devastating.
What was your favorite part of it to write?

My favorite part of the book was giving the antagonist a taste of his own medicine. He gets what’s coming to him not once, but three times! That was cathartic to write.

What books or authors inspired you to become a writer?

I’ve been told I’m a cross between Liane Moriarty and Jackie Collins and this makes me happy because they are both great at creating intense characters and bizarre situations.

What advice would you give to aspiring authors who want to write a book?

My advice to other writers is don’t get too caught up in how you should write a book. I doubted myself because I write freestyle and don’t plan and structure everything. Each creative mind is different so write in a way that comes easily to you. Try to write a little every day but don’t obsess over how many pages this needs to be. Believe in yourself and be determined!

My debut novel Hidden From View can be purchased via amazon, In House Publishing online bookstore, from me directly and at Dymocks Glenelg and Adelaide stores (SA).  Dillons at Norwood and Matilda’s at Norwood (SA) also stock my book 😊.
