What would you like readers to know about you?
I am so excited to be a debut writer and I hope people check out my book! If your library doesn’t have it, please feel free to request it there, I’ve found that most libraries do end up ordering requested books.
What is your book about for those who haven’t read it?
WHEN THE TRUTH UNRAVELS is about four girls who decide to attend prom together after a recent near-tragedy. Elin attempted suicide a month before prom, and her three best friends–Rosie, Ket, Jenna–are determined to make sure nothing like that ever happens again. But halfway through the night, Elin disappears and the others resolve to find her–but doing so will require confronting secrets they’ve all been keeping.
What has been your inspiration for writing it?
I wanted to write a book about positive female friendships and mental health in a way that takes suicidal ideation seriously but also recognizes that human beings are complex and joke around about very serious topics. A lot of different factors went into it, but eventually, my four girls began to take shape in my head.
What was your favorite scene or part of your book to write?
Haha–not to spoil anything, but it takes place in a broom closet.
What books or authors inspired you to become a writer?
I have always loved reading and writing, ever since I was a little kid. One of my favorite writers is Stephen King and I love how well-drawn all his characters are.
What advice would you give to aspiring authors who want to write a book?
Read as much as you can, watch interesting movies and television, and make friends with other writers! I learn so much from critiquing other people and helping them through their works-in-progress. I think creativity is definitely sparked when it’s exercised in different ways.
