Ask the Author: April Henry

What would you like readers to know about you?
I write mysteries and thrillers for teens and adults. I’m known for my meticulous research. My 24th book is coming out in August.
What is your book about for those who haven’t read it?
My next book, RUN, HIDE, FIGHT BACK, is about 6 teens trapped in a shopping mall when it’s attacked by domestic terrorists. Think of it as Die Hard meets Breakfast Club.
What has been your inspiration for writing it?
There was a real terrorist attack on a shopping mall in Kenya several years ago.
What was your favorite scene or part of your book to write?
I loved revealing a big secret.
What books or authors inspired you to become a writer?
I was a huge fan of Roald Dahl and Robert C. O’Brien.
What advice would you give to aspiring authors who want to write a book?
Learn to finish what you start. Beginning writers often lose steam, but you can’t sell an unfinished book.
