Ask the Author: Kerat Kaur Jhaj

What would you like readers to know about you?

About me?! I don’t know, I guess it would be cool to know this is my debut novel and I published this at age 16. Oh, and I can sing and do sketches and paintings as well as writing and reading.

What is your book about for those who haven’t read it?

Himagus is about ancient aliens that are running out of space on their planet Himagus so their Emperor sends two boys William and David to butcher humans on earth and then have some of Himagusians settle on Earth. William fell in love and killed everyone except Kylie, and now she’s trying to decide if she should just blast off these Himagusians for killing her mom, dad and all the mankind or should she attempt to find a way to get Emperor’s locket and wish for mankind to be back. Or you know…she can just forgive William and this can be her happily ever after

What has been your inspiration for writing it?

I was in ninth grade, and our teacher always gave us five minutes to write in our journal. And in case we didn’t know what to write about he gave us prompts. And I’ve been a bookworm my whole life, always carrying the YA fantasy fever. So, what happens when you’ve finished Hunger Games, Twilight and get five minutes to write every day? I guess Himagus happens…

What was your favorite scene or part of your book to write?

ALL THE TRAGEDIES!!!  *insert evil laughter*

What books or authors inspired you to become a writer?

R. L Stine..grew up reading his work and Uncle Rick (aka Rick Riordan) is awesome!

What advice would you give to aspiring authors who want to write a book?

Commit, finish what you’ve started. It’ll take you long way. You can be scared to put yourself out there but don’t let the fear stop you. And never forget to get inspired and read!
